US dollar is down for the fifth week in a row

Leading speculators trimmed their buying momentum on the US dollar last week as sterling sales rallied. Non-trading futures for the US dollar futures index traded by major speculators and hedge funds reached 36,049 contracts by the day of the trio on December 18th, down by 2073 compared to the previous week's 38,122 contracts.

The US dollar is down for the fifth week in a row, near the 11 September low. The euro improved by 3,163 contracts, the Canadian dollar by 4212, the Australian dollar by 10,462 and the New Zealand dollar at 18,652. While contracts fell on the US dollar by 2,073 contracts, the pound by 18,304 contract, the Japanese yen by 5165 contract and the Swiss franc by 4659 contract.
