The annual inflation rate in the US rose in line with market expectations, with the consumer price index rising by 2.5% on yearly basis in April from March's rise by 2.4%.

The core consumer price index, which excludes food and energy prices, rose by 2.1% on yearly basis, while market expectations were 2.2%.

On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.2%, while the core consumer price index rose by 0.1%.

Inflation is a key determinant of the Fed's interest rate path, and markets expect the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates again at the June meeting.
