UK wages surges to the highest level in a decade

UK wage growth accelerated to its highest level in 10 years, supporting the Bank of England's view that there is no spare capacity in the labor market.

Wages excluding bonuses rose by 3.2 percent in the three months to September compared to last year. Wages including bonuses were in line with expectations, rising by 3%.

Unemployment unexpectedly rose from a 43-year low to 4.1 percent as the number of unemployed people rose by 20.2 thousand, while the number of people working rose by 23,000 to 32.41 million, the highest level of employment ever.

British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to welcome wage figures as a sign of economic strengthen as she faces pressure on Brexit. Following the data, the pound rose to a daily high of 1.2914.
