Turkey imposes retaliatory tariffs on US imports

Turkey has tried to respond to the attack from the United States of America after the imprisonment of a US priest and increase tariffs on Turkish imports, also Turkey increased tariffs on some US imports including cars, alcohol and tobacco.

Turkish President, Erdogan announced lifting tariffs on cars by 120%, alcoholic beverages by 140% and tobacco by 60%. Other fees were also levied on rice, coal and cosmetics. Turkey had earlier indicated it may raise tariffs on US electronic products.

The Turkish lira fell more than 20 percent since the end of last week after the United States announced the imposition of sanctions, and since the beginning of the year the currency lost nearly 40% of its value against the US dollar. Vice President Fateh Oktay confirmed that his country would take all appropriate measures and respond to the overt attack on the Turkish economy by the United States of America.
