The number of workers paying in Spain's social security system has risen to a 10-year high in July as Spain's labor market continues to recover from deep recession. Spain lost millions of jobs during a five-year economic downturn that began in 2008.

Unemployment hit a record high of 27 percent in the first quarter of 2013 and since then, 2.9 million jobs have been created, equivalent to 86.5 percent of those lost during the downturn. About 19.14 million employees paid social security during the previous month, up 0.19% from June.

Also, the number of unemployed fell by 0.86% to 3.14 million. Unemployment fell in all major sectors, and the quarterly unemployment rate fell based on a survey to 15.3%, the lowest level since the end of 2008.
