Kuroda warns of protectionist policies risks

Haruhiko Kuroda, Governor of the Bank of Japan, warned today of the need to take into account the risks to Japan's moderate economic expansion, such as risks arising from the rising tide of protectionist policies and volatile financial markets.

Kuroda said there was a need for vigilance on recent protectionist movements and developments in financial markets, but the Japanese economy is likely to continue growing moderately. He added that he did not see any irregularities in the Japanese financial system, but regional financial institutions were of the opinion that profits are declining because of the decline in population and low interest rates for long periods.
