Japan's export growth accelerated in August, boosted by increased shipments to the United States, suggesting that growing trade disputes between China and the United States have not yet hit Japanese trade.

The increase in exports to the United States could put pressure on Japan from the U.S. president ahead of bilateral trade talks, which are expected to take place later this month.

China has added $ 60 billion of U.S. products to the tariff list in response to Trump's $ 200 billion Chinese goods tariff.

Japan's exports rose by 6.6 percent in August from a year earlier versus expectations of a 5.6 percent rise after rising 3.9 percent in July. Japan's exports to the United States rose by 5.3 percent in the year to August.

U.S. auto exports fell for the third consecutive month. While imports from the United States rose by 21.5 percent in August, cutting the trade surplus with the United States by 14.5 percent on yearly basis to 455.8 billion yen ($ 4.06 billion).

Total imports rose by 15.4 percent in the year to August, while the trade balance deficit hit 444.6 billion yen.
