Italy will not ratify the European Union (EU) free trade agreement with Canada, which could derail the biggest EU deal in years, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi de Mayo said today.

He stressed that the treaty will arrive the Parliament and would be rejected by the majority.

The leader of the five-star movement said that if one Italian official continues to defend agreements such as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, they will be removed. The (CETA) is the first major agreement signed by the EU since the signing of an agreement with South Korea, which was ratified in 2015, and the agreement requires with Canada the approval of all EU member states until it is ratified.

Supporters say it will boost trade by 20 percent and boost the EU economy by 12 billion euros ($ 13.96 billion) a year and Canada with 12 billion Canadian dollars ($ 9.10 billion).
