Italy to ask for more scope for public investment and reforms

Italian Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said Italy to ask Europe for more scope for public investment and reforms, adding that all member states must have the same systems of public finances and welfare.

Italy is the third-largest economy in the euro area, with a debt burden of about 130 percent of gross domestic product, the largest among major eurozone nations.

Economists estimate that coalition government plans could add tens of billions of euros to annual spending.
