German parliament elects Merkel for 4 years

The German parliament has reelected German Chancellor Angela Merkel for four years as chancellor, putting an end to nearly six months of political uncertainty in Europe's biggest economy. Members voted 364 to 315 for Merkel's re-election.

Merkel has led the German government since 2005, and her conservative coalition, which includes the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union and the Social Democrats, has 399 of the 709 seats in parliament.
