Eurozone inflation slowed in January

Eurozone consumer price growth slowed slightly in January, but the core inflation which closely watched by the European Central Bank rose for the first time in months, according to data from the European Statistics office.

Consumer prices in 19 countries fell by 0.9% on a monthly basis during the period, and by 1.3% on yearly basis in line with market expectations.

Looking at the details of the index, the rise in food prices was 0.7% on a monthly basis and an annual increase of 1.1%. Energy prices also rose by 1.8% on a monthly basis and 2.2% annualized gains.

With excluding volatile elements such as food and energy, core inflation fell to 1.3%, while it rose by 1.2% YoY and by 1.1% in the last three months.
