David Davis, a former Brexit secretary, said he had asked British Prime Minister Theresa May to hold the disastrous snap election in 2017 that witnessed loss of her majority and weaken her hand in Brexit negotiations.

David Davis who quit in July, distanced himself from the 2017 election campaign, described it as the worst in recent history.

Despite a series of polls in early 2017 that showed the possibility of rising Theresa May for her majority in parliament, she eventually lost it and was forced to enter into a coalition with the Unionist Democratic Party of Northern Ireland.
