China's tariff will take effect by 34 billion dollars on US goods on July 6 as trade tensions between the world's two largest economies worsen, according to one source.

The United States said it would apply tariffs on Chinese imports worth $34 billion on July 6 and China promised to respond to the same thing on the same day.

The official spokesman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that his country is ready to move, although the date on which the Chinese tariffs may begin is not confirmed. He added without elaborating that China had already prepared and that necessary measures would be taken to protect its legitimate interests.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to escalate the trade dispute by bringing tariffs to nearly $400 billion on Chinese goods if Beijing retaliates against US tariffs due to come into force on Friday.
