China will respond if the United States takes new steps on trade after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of his willingness to impose tariffs on almost all Chinese imports, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

Trump said on Friday he is ready to impose additional taxes on almost all Chinese imports, threatening to charge $ 267 billion of goods over and above planned tariffs on $ 200 billion worth of Chinese products.

China and the United States have activated an additional tariff of $ 50 billion of each other's goods since July as the trade conflict between the world's two largest economies escalated despite several rounds of negotiations.
