Chinese exports raise more than expected in October as shipping companies rushed to the United States, its largest trading partner, to seek higher tariff rates than expected to start early next year. On the other side imports were better than market expectations.

Customs data showed on Thursday that exports rose 15.6% last month from a year earlier and increased from 14.5% in September. The reading exceeded expectations analysts' forecasts in a Reuters poll due to a slowdown to 11%, although estimates were widely varied.

October's import growth accelerated to 21.4% from 14.3% in September, exceeding analysts' expectations of a slight drop to 14%.

China's trade surplus with the United States stood at $31.78 billion in October, compared with a record $34.13 billion in September
