Chinese Prime Minister on Monday criticized growing trade protection, promising to open bigger doors to his country's economy.

In an article in the Singapore Straits Times, Lee was invited by Singapore's Prime Minister to further regional integration, saying multilateralism was threatened by political pressure.

"China has opened its doors to the world and will never close it but open it to its legislators," the Chinese official said in the article. He called for a "free world economy" in the face of "rising trade and unilateral protection" without referring directly to the trade war between US and China.

US President Donald Trump, who describes many multilateral trade deals as unfair, criticizes China for stealing intellectual property rights, restrictions on US companies' entry into markets and a huge trade deficit.
