Canadian Foreign Minister, Christia Freeland spokesman said yesterday that she will meet the U.S. trade representative in Washington today in a new round of talks to renew the NAFTA agreement and he gave no further details.

After more than year, Canada and the United States are still trying to resolve differences over the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which also includes Mexico. U.S. officials say time is running out on a text the current Congress can vote on, while Canadian officials say they are working on the assumption that they have until the end of September.

Freeland spent three days in Washington last week and said she and the U.S. trade representative were making good progress in some areas, although a deal was still far from being reached.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who said he is ready to tear down the NAFTA deal, had struck a deal with Mexico and threatened to move ahead without Canada.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he saw no need to attend the talks at the moment.
