A bad start for the British manufacturing sector in 2018

The manufacturing sector in the UK seems to have experienced a difficult start in 2018, with marked growth slowing in the sector, according to the latest data from the Markit Statistics Office.

The PMI of the sector declined during the period from 56.3 to 55.3 points, contrary to the market expectations, which indicated an increase of 56.5 points.

Despite the continuous growth of the sector over the past period and the index's stability at 50 levels, it was the weakest sector since June. Where shortages of goods and raw materials have disappointed suppliers as costs continue to rise.

It should be noted that the decline of the pound since the referendum made most of the British goods cheaper to buyers abroad, which led to the strengthening of manufacturers. However, with the pound rebounding, especially against the greenback again, this may decline to some extent.
