Brexit campaigners seeking to harden government plan

Brexit campaigners in Prime Minister Theresa May's party seek to harden the government's plan to leave the EU by changing its customs legislation in parliament next week.

Jacob Rees-Mogg, a leading supporter of Brexit and head of a group of Eurosceptic lawmakers, said he was considering amendments to the Taxation Bill (cross-border trade), which will be discussed and voted on next week.

While the government is announcing its negotiating position, which is seen as a less stringent exit from the fears of European companies and EU supporters, the focus will be on Brexit campaigners, as they angered by Theresa May's proposal to maintain strong trade ties with the EU after leaving in March 2019, which is the largest political shift in foreign policy and trade for nearly half a century.
