Berlusconi proposes president of the European Parliament to become the prime minister

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has proposed that the head of the European Parliament, Antonio Tagani, to be Italy's next prime minister as election approaches and will be held on Sunday. Berlusconi's "Forza Italia" appears to be well placed to win support in the elections alongside their center-right coalition partners.

It is expected that this alliance will win the largest number of votes but may not reap the majority to take power. While Berlusconi is unable to run for office because of his candidacy ban, he needs to put another name to become Italy's prime minister.

Tagani participated in several campaign activities for the Forza Italia party, which took over as president of the European Parliament in January last year.
