US unemployment benefits fall to one-month low

US jobless claims fell to their lowest levels in more than a month last week as claims continued to fall in both Texas and Florida as a result of hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Initial jobless claims fell by 15K to 243K for the week ended in October 7th, the lowest level since late August. The previous reading was revised down slightly to 258K from 260K. The average of the four weeks fell by 9,500 to 257.500 compared to the previous reading.

The number of people still receiving benefits fell to 1.89 million during the week ended in September 30, the lowest since December 1973. As a result of the Harvey and Irma hurricanes, the non-farm sector lost 33,000 jobs in September and was the first time to lose Jobs since 7 years.
