Germany on the verge of new elections

German Chancellor Angela Merkel aide has called on German parties to decide over the next three weeks whether to form a stable government and get out of Germany's political impasse. The failure of talks between the conservative bloc of Merkel and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), as well as the Greens Party, increased political uncertainty and increased the likelihood of new elections.
Also, the uncertainty raised doubts about Merkel's ability to serve for a fourth term after 12 years in office after winning the most seats in the last election. Merkel's aide stressed the need for all sides to support the German president's call to take responsibility and unite for the formation of the government.
On the other hand, Merkel said she would prefer to hold new elections on lead a non stable minority government. Until a new government is agreed upon, Merkel will continue to hold office, including the rest of her cabinet.
