ANZ raises its forecast for the Australian dollar

20 Sep 2017 01:26 PM

ANZ expects that Reserve Bank of Australia to join the global monetary tightening cycle by raising interest rates twice in 2018 by 25 basis points in May and the same in the second half of 2018, as the global economy grows stronger and more widely.

They also raised their expectations for the Australian dollar and currently expect the Australian dollar to rise to 0.83 against the US dollar by the middle of next year. However, the firm has not pushed ahead with expectations over a longer period as risk appetite is expected to dominate markets as liquidity tightens starts and this will be quite negative for the AUD.
