US Producer Price Index rises in August

The US PPI rose by 0.2% in August, slightly below the market forecast of 0.3%, after falling by 0.1% in July. On an annualized basis, the index rose to 2.4% in August from 1.9%.

The core index, which excludes food and fuel prices, rose by 0.1% in August against expectations of a 0.2% rise. The index rose 2% on yearly basis from the previous at 1.8%.

Goods prices rose by 0.5% in August, the strongest gain since April, while services prices rose by 0.1%. Tomorrow will release new data on inflation the US consumer prices index.

With the weakening dollar and rising domestic demand, prices are expected to see upward pressure in the coming months.
